Father’s Day

In case you missed it - Father’s Day is this weekend!

This Father’s Day, we’re celebrating the fathers, dads, stepdads, grandfathers and father figures who have helped shape the people we are today. The ones who taught us things, encouraged us, made us laugh, occasionally drove us crazy, and hopefully passed on a few good lessons along the way.

So here at the distillery, we’ve taken some time to reflect on what the fathers and father figures in our lives mean to us. Below are a few of our thoughts. Some sentimental, some funny, but all personal.

My dad Steve, aka Stove, is one of the funniest and hardest-working people I know. He sacrificed a lot of time at home, working long hours away from the family, to provide for us and give us the best childhood a kid could ask for. He taught me how to be hard working, generous, strong, self-reliant, and most importantly, how to throw a good party! His work in the Flavor and Fragrance industry inspired me to study Fermentation Science and become a distiller. My love of giving people annoying nicknames, travel, and fishing is all thanks to him, along with the chronic back pain from the "circle of death" water tubing in Lake George every summer.

One of my favorite memories of my dad and I involves karaoke in a Russian party bus in Singapore and a tribe of monkeys stealing our coconut. Love you Dad xx Samantha aka Pacha.

Community. Helping because it’s the right thing to do. Always trying to pay it forward. These are the core things I’ve learnt from my Dad. A man who will help you no matter who you are. He taught me how important it is to build community and be involved. If you uplift one person, you can uplift everyone. And most important, to uplift and expect nothing back. He would tell me that if you pay it forward, it has a funny way of coming back around to you. Combine that with bad jokes, an amazing singing voice, and near unlimited patience for his kids, and you have a well-rounded man I’m proud to call Dad - Ethan

While my Dad passed away many years ago, he is still loved and missed a lot. Dad was an analytical scientist, and I still remember his sadness (and perhaps a little regret!) when, at high school, I wasn’t any good at science. He had no idea that my life would eventually take me where it has. I sometimes pause when walking into the distillery, or when I’m talking to a group about how a still works, and think that somewhere, he is probably propping himself up against a tree, smiling and saying, “Finally, she gets it.” - Ed

Fathers - I had the fortune of growing up with two father figures.

One of them a family man who instilled traditional family values but with a healthy dose of laughter and mischief, evidenced above threatening the rooster with the stockpot for coming in the house again. Paul, my stepfather is always there with encouragement, support and sound advice.

The other, a man of few words but expressed himself through creativity in music and his work, a carpenter/builder/fixer of anything. He taught me I can do anything with my hands, all it takes is patience and the confidence to try. - Liam

What does Dad want for Father’s Day?

Marty has been asked many times what he would like for Father’s Day, and his answer is always the same “peace and quiet.”
